The London Olympics: the heritage
OLYMPICS HERITAGE TOUR
The Olympics was held in London for the third time in 2012; but what happened at the previous two in 1908 & 1948 - what kind of games were they where were they held? Starting with the famous All England Club,Wimbledon, we will travel across Putney Bridge to Craven Cottage, home of Fulham FC since 1896 & football venue in 1908. Back to the site of athletics venues previously, The White City. Soon we will be off to see the new Wembley Stadium. Contrast this with 900 year old Windsor Castle, where the infamous 1908 marathon began. Finally,we move onto that most English of towns, Henley-on-Thames, to see the venue for the rowing regattas.
During our Tour you will hear about the origins of the Games in rural Shropshire & some of the events no longer included: jeu de paume, anyone?
